Swasan: Fix You (Episode 26)

A special update !!
Similar yet different from the last episode of my first ff Swasan : The Star Couple.

Sanskar’s pov ~~

I drove on the beautiful streets of London – past the huge corporate buildings, crowded stores, bakeries, art galleries and a museum. We were almost there as I could feel the nervousness and anxiety build up inside me.

Somehow I had controlled it not wanting to make a fool out of myself in front of my girlfriend. Swara sat beside me tapping her foot impatiently.

“Why won’t you just tell me?” She asked for the twentieth time. Yes, I was counting. I shook my head yet again as a response.

“What’s the fun in telling you? It’s supposed to be a surprise. Surprises aren’t told.” I replied.

She groaned. “Ugh whatever! Just don’t take me on another roller coaster ride.” She muttered making me laugh. She still couldn’t forget the ride. It was quite an adventurous day for us.

Swara’s pov ~~

The fact that Sanskar was planning a surprise had now started eating my mind. I was restless. I was only too eager to know.

He pulled the brakes and stopped in the parking lot beside an underground station. We got out as I read the huge board written in front of me – City Of Westminster.

I wondered why would he bring me here. “What are we doing here?” I asked him with a completely bored expression.

He smiled and pointed towards something. I looked in the direction which was in front of us. My expression suddenly changed as I was amused, as I could see a huge tower in front of me.

It was The Big Ben. I took step forward and I could see the Westminster Abbey beside as well. Then at our back was the River Thames. And finally on the banks of it was the London Eye. To sum up everything in one word – it was beautiful.

I looked back at Sanskar, as a confused smile plastered on my face. His gaze was still fixed on me.

“Why would you get me here?” I asked letting out a small laugh.

He put his arm around my shoulder as we walked down the road. There were a lot of people around us. Yet nobody seemed to recognize him.

“Will you even answer?” I asked.

He laughed. “Okay. You hadn’t seen this part of the city so I thought of bringing you here. Do you like it?” He asked casually.

I raised my eyebrows in amusement. He was definitely keeping something to himself, but wasn’t telling me about it. I didn’t even ask for any further explanation as I knew that he wasn’t going to say a word.

We walked past people, who were busy clicking pictures of the huge tower and themselves. Walking down the bridge, we got down the stairs which led us to the bank of the river Thames.

Small cafes and restaurants were lined up on our right side. While all I could see on the left side was water. The roads were a little wait due to the sudden little shower.

I causally looked around until I realized that we were leading towards the London Eye. I looked up to see the massive wheel which turned really slow.

‘I swear, if he’s planning to take me inside that thing, I’m going back right now.’ I thought.

Heights always scared the crap out of me. I looked at Sanskar as if he was out of his mind. Well, I think he was.

“What?” He asked, pretending to be confused. When in reality he knew what he is going to get from me.

“Mr. Maheshwari, if you are planning on taking me inside this thing, you better know about the consequences of it. So I’m not coming with you on this.” I stated.

He looked uncomfortable only for just a couple of seconds and then gained his confidence back. He stood straight and took my hand in his.

“You think I would let anything happen to you? Beside look there. . .” He said pointing towards a tube like thing attached to a wheel.

“All you have to do is sit and look around! Its completely safe.” He said.

“I know it is! But you know that I’m afraid of heights.” I said.

“I know! And that is why I want you to overcome this fear of yours. Do you even know that I was also afraid of heights. I still am! But I just tend to close my eyes and convince myself that it’s going to be okay! That nothing in the world has power to tame me.” He said.

I sighed. I still couldn’t agree with him 100%.

“Okay. Fine. I’m coming just for you.” I said. He grinned like a child does after his mother buys a new video game. He took my hand in his as we walked towards the entrance.

“Sir, ma’am. I hope you both enjoy your time.” The lady who handed us the tickets say.

“Thank you.” We thanked her and walked inside the tube.

I was walking too slow. I could see the water shining due to the sunlight. It was crystal clear with no dirt and crap whatsoever.

We were moving upwards, as I could see a little farther. There were buildings of all kinds. Tall, small, commercial, residential, etc. It seemed like this city was never ending.

“It’s beautiful. Like there’s no end to it.” I said, looking outside through the glass. Sanskar stood beside me and nodded.

“You’re right. You know, the first time I came here, I felt like why wasn’t I born here?” He said in a way that made me laugh.

“I was eighteen.” He chuckled.

“Since that time, this city was quite fascinating to me. Everything here is so fast. Yet, we seem to enjoy life and know the meaning of it.” He added.

“That’s true. I’ve always wanted to travel. The destination never mattered to me, but the journey did. The people who I’m with did. And now, when I’m here in one of the best cities in the world, I feel its all a dream.” I said.

“Like a very good dream and I’m afraid that one day, it will just end. I’ll find myself living the life I used to live.” I added.

I looked down at my fingers, playing with them without a reason. I didn’t feel like crying at all. I just felt sad, knowing the fact that one day I’ll have to face the difficulties in life.

I felt his gaze fixed on me as he wrapped his arms around me. He kisses my head and held me close and tight.

“I know.” He said.

“I know some day or the other, we all have to face difficulty in our real lives. But thinking about what’s going to happen tomorrow, would only make our today worse. So why not live in the moment and enjoy whatever time we have in our hands?”

I smiled at his words. He was so full of positive things. No matter how I upset I got, just his words were enough for me to be strong and stand on my own feet. He encouraged me to do everything I thought I could never do.

Suddenly I felt a jerk as I stumbled a little to my right. Looking out, it didn’t take me much time to realize that we had stopped.

That too, at the very top. . .

Oh, God. No…

“Why did it stop?” I asked, trying to hide totally my scared side. Sanskar on the other hand, seemed to be not affected by it at all. He was smiling at himself and wondered whether he was okay.

“Uh, are you okay?” I asked. He nodded and looked at me.

I was beyond confused as he smiled mischievously to himself. He took a step back and put his hand in a pocket of his jacket. I looked curiously as he searched for something inside.

Soon he took it out. I knew I should’ve been known from the beginning. He took out a little purple coloured velvet box and my eyes almost popped our their sockets as I realized what the box contained.

Was he really going to do that?

I wondered. My legs were shaking and I had an idea of what was going to come next. I wasn’t even ready for it!

No no no no…please don’t say it!

I begged freaking out from inside. I had to stop him anyhow. For God’s sake I hadn’t even completed my college! Let alone be marrying him!

Moreover, I was just nineteen and he was just twenty three. I suppose, we were young for all that!

“Sanky. What are you doing?” I asked. Without saying a word he got down on a knee.

Kill me somebody. . . .

“Oh, no no no no no no no don’t!–” I freaked out and tried to stop him but he cut me off instead.

“Oh shut up!” He said, not at all being rude. Before I could ask him anything he said —

“It’s not what it looks like.”

After earning a confused look, he spoke up again.

“I’m not going to propose you!” He chuckled.

That was enough for me to relax. My heartbeats seemed to slow down a bit. Oh thank God…

“Then, what are you doing?” I asked, still confused by his actions.

He took a deep breath and looked straight into my eyes. Those beautiful eyes only reflected love and honesty. How could one not get lost in them?

“Swara, I knew we’ve not been together for a time. Like other couples, we’ve not been for one year, two years or whatever… But I want you to know and I want the world to know that I’m in love with you…. truly, madly, deeply. You’ve got me trapped and there is no way out of it.” He said.

I didn’t interrupt waiting for him to go on.

“The first truth is I love being with you. The first day I saw you at the concert I felt some sort of connection with you. Even though you had left I knew somewhere in my heart, that I would see you again and I did.”

“I don’t know how, when and why, but I just fell in love with you. I didn’t need years of togetherness to realize it. When you laughed, I laughed. When you cried, I cried. That was enough for me to realize my feelings for you.” He said. I was speechless.

“When you called yourself not good enough, I felt it was my responsibility to make you realize that you were more than good. You were perfect. I never wanted to fix you. I wanted you to do it yourself, and I can see you doing it. But I just want to be by your side and love you while you do it.”

“So, Swara.” He said and opened the little box. It contained a necklace. A thin silver necklace with a pendant. It was a heart shaped pendant which contained Swasan carved on it. There was only one word to describe it – it was beautiful.

“I want you to know, that you are perfect, to me. And today I promise to give you everything you deserve. So will you accept this and do me the honour of calling you mine?” He asked.

I didn’t know what to say. I could feel tears welling up inside my eyes. How could anyone love someone so much? And especially, if that someone was someone like me.

I could only nod as those tears finally gave in and slipped out. Sanskar was smiling from ear to ear. He got up and took the delicate little pendant in his hands. He helped me wear it while I cried like baby.

“You’re crying! Again? You should be happy!” He said while laughing and engulfing me in his arms. I wiped my tears and smiled for they were the tears of joy.

“I am. Thank you.” I said holding onto him tighter.

After sometime, he pulled away gently and took me to the corner. We looked down and realized all of a sudden that we hadn’t still moved down. We were at the tip and I could see the whole city beneath me.

“It’s beautiful.” I said. Everything looked like it had been shrunk. The bridged, buildings, cars, shops, people… Everything was so…tiny.

“Isn’t it?” He spoke from beside me. He smiled and turned me to face him.

“I love you.” I said

“I love you more.” He replied. I shook my head.

“You did this all for me?” I asked still amused by the fact that even with the fest going on, he managed to plan this all so well.

He nodded. “I did. What can I say? I’m just too good.” He said and came to praising himself again.

I laughed and smashed my lips on his. He kissed me back, pulling me against him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and felt every bit of him inside me.

We started to move down again. But as far as I was considered, I was still up there. Frozen in that moment, living it again and again and again.
